Does Korea have a certified translator system?
No, Korea does not operate a general “certified translator” system.
Instead, Korea maintains a unique public qualification system under the Licensed Administrative Agent Act. Licensed Administrative Attorneys in foreign language translation service are legally authorized to handle translation-related administrative services.
While translation itself may be performed by anyone, only a Licensed Administrative Attorney is authorized under Korean law to issue an official certification of a translation and assume responsibility for its accuracy.
For this reason, translations intended for submission to government authorities or official institutions in Korea are often accompanied by a certification issued by a Licensed Administrative Attorney.
